WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE LEADING

Maybe you’re new in your leadership and you’re excited and always pumped in every new day in your leadership, but I have some news for you so please grab a seat while I try to break this gently…

YOU’RE NOT ALWAYS GOING TO FEEL LIKE LEADING!

Ok that wasn’t gentle at all, but I just needed to get it out. Whether you’re a young professional or you’re more seasoned, there’s going to be times when you don’t feel like leading. This is where discipline comes in. I believe is one of the most important characteristics in life because it keeps us going when our feelings or emotions tell us otherwise.

Keep reading for 3 ways to develop/sustain your self discipline.

First way to develop your self discipline is to tap into your Why. It’s your purpose, calling, mission, or whatever you want to call it. Something bigger than yourself. When we get caught up in our feelings/emotions, it’s because we’re focused on ourselves, but when we focus on our Why, this goes much deeper.

Second way is to start small. As the high performing leader, that I know you are, there’s a tendency for us to do too much and take on too much. It may be necessary to scale back or delegate more. Keep in mind that delegating doesn’t mean just forgetting about it, don’t fall into this trap. Make sure you provide the necessary support and keep in mind that delegation takes longer on the front end, but will save you precious time long-term.

Third way is to reflect. Sometimes, when we don’t feel like leading anymore, it’s because we get tunnel vision and feel like things aren’t working. Reflect on where you were 1 month ago, 1 year ago, 5 years ago, depending on how long you’ve been leading in this area. This will provide context and who that you’re still growing and developing. If you reflect and see that things have grown stagnant, then we’ve got some work to do! Reach out to me and let’s back on track!
