POV: You’re successful but actually exhausted
Episode 149 w/ Mireia Mujika
Check out last week’s newsletter: Don’t Maintain the Status Quo
Continuing to highlight my speaking and the below clip is an excerpt from a talk last year where I talked about the importance of listening. If you know someone looking for a speaker focus on Leadership, Resilience, Networking, or Imposter Syndrome especially for STEM audiences, check out my booking page.
Main Character Energy Requires Actual Rest.
Seems like we hear it every year
This is your year to thrive, to lead, to make a massive impact.
I’ve been thinking more and more but at what cost?
We talk a lot about the success, the accolades, and the big wins, but we rarely talk about the well-being piece that actually makes those wins last.
Hard truth is that many of us are operating in a way that is completely unsustainable.
I see it all the time: high-achievers giving everything to a project, eating badly, and skipping sleep just to cross the finish line, only to crash and burn the second it’s over.
If you aren’t healthy whether it’s physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Your leadership has an expiration date!
The "Boring Break" Strategy
I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with this. Sometimes I feel guilty when I’m not doing something.
We’ve been programmed to produce, produce, produce. But over the last year, I’ve been more intentional about "Prioritizing Paul" before I hit a breaking point.
One of the most powerful things you can do is schedule "time to do nothing." Whether it’s a 15-minute "boring break" to ground yourself or 45 minutes of literal rest, you have to unplug from the machine. If you don't choose to rest, your body will eventually choose it for you.
You Are Not Your Labels
For my Gen Z and younger millennial readers out there, I see you. We’re dealing with a level of digital noise that’s only getting worse.
It’s easy to feel like you aren’t "good enough" when you're comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel.
But remember this: Your identity isn't written in stone.
You don't have to stay stuck in the "reactive phase" where you only see yourself through the labels other people put on you.
You have the power to shape who you are and who you want to become.
TL;DR:
Health is the Foundation: A leader who isn't well can't lead a healthy organization. Stop the Drift: If you're only working in high-stress peaks, you're headed for burnout. Schedule Rest: Literally put "do nothing" on your calendar. Own Your Identity: Don't let social media or old labels define your potential.
Want to go deeper? I recently sat down with Mireia Mujika, a leadership coach and founder of Bare & Brave, to unpack everything from the "Adult Development Theory" to navigating imposter syndrome in a digital world. We talked about the importance of being in relationship with your body and why asking for help is a leadership superpower.
Don't let your self-awareness keep you from your future. You can be incredible!

Mireia Mujika is the founder of Bare & Brave, a Leadership Expert, certified Executive Leadership Coach with over 18 years of experience. She supports executives, athletes and teams to be the most effective leaders through psychometric assessments, 1:1 leadership coaching and team coaching. This episode is a deep dive into the "human" side of high performance. Paul Faronbi sits down with her to discuss why the current model of leadership is reaching a breaking point and how we can reclaim our well-being without losing our edge. From the high-pressure environments of Dubai’s C-suite to the emerging challenges of Gen Z consultants, Mireia shares her "boutique" approach to leadership. The conversation explores the "identity crisis" that often sparks greatness, the science behind why we get stuck in "reactive" phases, and the radical power of simply doing nothing.
