Twenty years ago if you asked a little kid what they wanted to be when they grew up, you may have heard firefighter, doctor, police officer, or a host of other service jobs. Now when you ask the same question you get a different answer…

You may here YouTuber or influencer more broadly. What they’ve learned is that influence is very powerful as influencers have had a lot to say over the years and made a lot of money in the process.

What not everyone realizes is that Leadership IS influence. But keep in mind that this influence can be used for good or for personal gain. In this episode, I dive into the Power of Influence and leadership specifically from a talk I gave during NALA(STEM)’s professional development series. This talk comes from April and is interactive with questions from the audience.

I emphasize the importance of caring for people and listening as key traits of a leader. I also shares statistics on trust in bosses and the lack of leadership training for managers, and provide tips for developing leadership skills, including self-reflection, mindset, and continuous learning. I close things out talking about the five levels of leadership and explains how they can be applied in various contexts.
