Is AI really the Problem?

It’s a sad day when people have to make grammatical or spelling errors to “not sound like AI”

Recently, I was having a conversation with a friend, and they casually mentioned that their response to something I sent them, sounded like AI. I quickly told them, I knew it wasn’t AI because of a typo I noticed.

Is this really where we are now that mistakes are the only thing that deems something as human written?

Maybe so…

Which is why I believe that leadership and personal growth is more important than ever!

With the rise of AI, anyone can craft the perfect message but your presence and how you carry yourself will make or break you and it’s seen in applying and interviewing for jobs right now especially.

The job market is brutal; job seekers and employers are both exhausted!

Side note but helpful tips I can share from when I work with clients on career development, I ask them where they’re getting hung up in the process and then can tackle the problem appropriately. It’s usually 1 of 3 areas…

  1. If you’re not any phone screens/interview, it’s either your resume is the issue or you’re applying for roles that have been open for too long and they already have filtered through the candidates they want to interview.

  2. If you’re getting phone screens, but you’re not making it beyond the hiring manager, then you’re probably not articulating your skills well.

  3. If you’re getting beyond the hiring manager, but not getting to final rounds then maybe you’re not doing a great job of convincing other functions or teammates that you can do the job well.

Another one worth mentioning but isn’t really an issue is more about timing that if you’re getting to final rounds and haven’t been accepted yet, it’s really just a matter of time before you get that role!

The hardest part with interviewing is staying positive and not getting down on yourself when things don’t go as planned. I’ve heard it said that “rejection is redirection” and I truly believe it.

I may have worked for 5 different notable companies now, but I’ve been rejected MANY more times than I was accepted. I actually was rejected from my current company 3 times (different locations) before I got in and the last rejection was from the same director that got me hired… longer story that maybe I’ll share publicly one day.

Focusing your energy on what you can do to improve, being hopeful for the future, and taking the necessary breaks is necessary to stay sane. It’s part of a R.E.S.T./ RESILIENCE framework I’ve given talks about and shared about on the podcast a couple years ago now.

So how does this tie into AI?

AI can tell you all the words that you need to say, but you still need to bring the human touch to any interview or interaction with others. At the end of the day, people want to work with people that they know, like, and trust not just an AI chatbot or AI agent for that matter.

We crave human connection and Covid taught us how much we needed it!

Taking the extra time to work on yourself instead of just regurgitating information will work wonders for you and set you a part in any interaction.

The hiatus for my show is almost over, but there’s still 171 episodes where I interviewed or shared a lot of relevant knowledge to help you upskill in your leadership and overall personal growth!

If you want to go deeper, I still have some spots open for FREE coaching, yes free coaching. Just reply back to this message and we’ll make it happen!

PAST PODCAST EPISODE HIGHLIGHT

In this episode of IncrediPaul Leadership, host Paul Faronbi, delves into the theme of resilience, particularly in the context of professional challenges faced by young adults, especially Gen Z. He shares a personal story from his internship at Nestle USA, where he expected to receive a full-time job offer but ultimately did not. This experience taught him valuable lessons about rejection and the importance of resilience in navigating career setbacks. Paul introduces an acrostic framework based on the word 'REST' to help listeners develop resilience, emphasizing that rejection is inevitable and that evaluating experiences is crucial for growth.
