Everything rises and falls on leadership, including your rent and gas prices

Leadership expert John C. Maxwell famously says that “everything rises and falls on leadership.”

He is right. And in our daily lives, I would say that so do gas prices, rent, and the cost of living.

Leadership isn't an abstract concept; it directly shapes the reality of what it costs to survive and thrive.

That is why I feel an urgent need to speak plainly: Donald Trump and the MAGA movement built around him represent the antithesis of genuine leadership, and I stand vehemently opposed to both.

As a person of faith, my foundational truth is simple: Jesus is first, and I am second. Because of that, I still shake my head at how Donald Trump hijacked the Republican Party and so many evangelical Christians through single-issue voting.

True leadership and Christianity shouldn’t trade moral integrity for political leverage. In practice, his approach fractured vital relationships with our global allies, led us into conflict in Iran that we never needed to enter, and peddled the narrative that things are "better than ever", even while historically low approval ratings reflected a very different reality for everyday people.

At the same time, I don’t consider myself a partisan person. Our First Amendment guarantees our right to agree or disagree, but over the last decade, we have lost the ability to debate in good faith.

Both major parties frequently prioritize being "right" over doing what is right for the people. Eight years ago, Howard J. Ross published Our Search for Belonging: How Our Need to Connect is Tearing Us Apart. His insights into tribalism and our desperate need for belonging are more relevant today than ever.

So why call out Donald Trump and the politicians who continue to support him right now?

Because we need change, and our opportunity to demand it arrives in just a couple of weeks.

It is easy to look at the state of politics, feel helpless, and sit back doing nothing. I’ve been there. But over the last six years, I made a deliberate choice to be more intentional with my voice and to use my platform and gifts so that others are empowered to Be Incredible.

If you are a student, Gen Z, or younger millennial, know this: if your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be working so hard to take it away from you.

Look at what is happening across college campuses nationwide. Polling sites are being quietly shut down, early-voting windows are being trimmed, and access is being restricted. They are actively betting that confusion, inconvenience, and apathy will keep you home. We are at a critical inflection point, and if we don’t show up, there is no use in complaining when we end up with outcomes that harm our future.

Our country’s diversity is its greatest beauty and strength, yet that diversity continues to be scapegoated. For years, politicians have stoked fear by claiming that immigrants and diverse communities are "stealing jobs." But as we saw during the chaotic, brief stint of the last White House Press Secretary, real incompetence frequently gets handed the keys to power without question.

So here is a reminder for anyone wrestling with imposter syndrome: if unqualified people have the audacity to walk into the highest offices in the land, what is stopping you from standing tall and using your voice?

Don't let them silence you, and don't count yourself out. Be intentional. Value the people around you, stand up for what is right, and back up your voice with decisive action:

  • Check your voter registration today: Even if you registered recently, rolls get purged. Verify your status in 60 seconds through your state election portal or Vote.org.

  • Confirm your campus voting location: If your on-campus polling booth was closed or moved, find your assigned precinct now so you aren't blindsided on Election Day.

  • Review ID requirements: Make sure your student ID meets state ballot criteria or have an accepted alternative ready to go.

The deadline window is closing in days. Protect your voice, make your plan, and vote if you want your voice to be heard!
