3 Types of Networkers (Don’t be #2)

🪫Social Battery: 1% (But Worth It)

I extroverted pretty hard over the long weekend and I’m partially still in recovery mode (definitive proof that I’m an ambivert), but it was well worth it!

I had the chance to pull up to the Podcast Summit, surrounded by creators and podcasters who are all about leveling up their craft. The room was packed with industry heavyweights like Kev on Stage, Eric Thomas, and Jeremy Anderson, just to name a few.

Being there confirmed some moves I’ve already been plotting, and answered a ton of questions I’ve had rolling around my head. You’ll see the fruits of it in the coming months, but for now... I’ll keep y’all in suspense.

The Networking Matrix: 3 Types of People

Since we're on the topic of connecting, let’s talk about networking. It is a massive power tool, but I see so many people doing it completely wrong. Usually, people fall into one of three buckets:

1. The Passive Ghost

These are the people who avoid networking entirely or sit in the corner waiting for someone to magically come up and connect with them.

Spoiler alert: This doesn't work.

It relies entirely on other people doing the heavy lifting, and you’re guaranteed to leave empty-handed.

2. The Clout Chaser

This vibe is just as bad and honestly, sometimes worse. It’s the "me, myself, and I" mindset where you’re only thinking about what you can extract from someone else. I saw plenty of this at the summit.

The second a speaker stepped off the stage, cameras and mics were shoved in their faces just to grab an "exclusive" clip for TikTok or Reels. Sure, it might give you a short-term view spike, but you’ve pretty much destroyed any chance of a real, future partnership.

3. The Win-Win Investor

This is the approach I strive for. It’s a concept pulled from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Instead of wondering "What can I get from this person?" shift your mindset to "How can I serve or add value to them?"

Sometimes it’s as simple as giving them their flowers or thanking them for the genuine impact they've had on your life and sharing the specific lessons you're actually applying.

Stop Doing the Same Thing Expecting Different Results

Like anything worth doing, networking requires real intentionality. Too often, we coast along thinking big opportunities will just naturally fall into our laps. Sure, luck happens, but if you aren’t getting the results you want right now, why expect things to magically change later?

The definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome.

If you want to change the trajectory of your life, you can't just wait for it to happen, and you can't clout-chase your way to the top. You need a strategic blueprint.
