Scared? Good. Lead Anyway!
Episode 133 w/ Paul Faronbi
Check out last week’s newsletter: THE CONFIDENCE HACK MOST LEADER’S MISS
Before I get into this week’s post, there’s been a lot of divisive and polarizing things said after Kirk was killed last week and I’m sure you’ve been inundated with a lot of noise so consider this post a break from all of it. I will say this. I still love Jesus, I love ALL People and I show that love by serving people regardless of if they agree with me.
Now to this week’s post…

OVERCOMING FEAR IN LEADERSHIP
Fear is very sneaky.
It doesn’t always look like panic or dread…
Sometimes it shows up as hesitation, people pleasing, or even silence.
For me, fear looked like being “painfully shy.” I wasn’t afraid to ask for what I needed, but I hated the thought of inconveniencing people. I wanted to blend in, not take up space.
Here’s the truth: leadership requires taking up space. It requires showing up fully, even when fear whispers that you’re not ready, not good enough, or not wanted.
“Hello Imposter Syndrome”
My journey has been full of transitions. New schools. New states. New jobs. New communities. Every step brought uncertainty, and every step demanded that I push through fear. At first, I avoided it. Eventually, I realized something important.
Fear is a signal. It means you’re stepping into growth.
That’s why passion doesn’t just drop into your lap. It is discovered by trying, failing, and experimenting. I never imagined I’d become a speaker, coach, or podcaster. By leaning into opportunities that scared me, I found what I love.
Here’s the main thing I want to drive home: even when you are living in your passion, fear still lingers. I love podcasting and connecting with people. Editing? Posting? Managing the behind the scenes work? Not my favorite. But necessary. And leadership is about doing the hard, unglamorous work too.
So how do you overcome fear in leadership? You don’t wait until it’s gone. You move forward with it. You keep showing up. You advocate for yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable. You build relationships, even when it is easier to stay in the background. Lean into a community of like minded people!
That is exactly what I unpack in the latest episode of the IncrediPaul Leadership Podcast, where I talk about passion, transitions, and showing up boldly in your work and life. If you’ve ever wondered how to balance fear, passion, and purpose, this episode is for you.
🎙️ Tune in and let’s continue to Be Incredible!
TL:DR?
Fear isn’t a stop sign in leadership, it’s a signal that you’re growing. I used to be painfully shy, but leaning into uncomfortable opportunities helped me discover my passion for speaking, coaching, and podcasting. Even when you’re living in your passion, fear still shows up. The key is to move forward with it, advocate for yourself, and keep showing up. I break this down more in the latest IncrediPaul Leadership Podcast episode. Tune in to grow with me!
