RESTING IN LEADERSHIP
When was the last time that you truly rested?
Do you think that you don’t have the time to rest?
The truth is that we can’t afford not resting no matter how busy we are.
At worst, if you don’t rest, your body will eventually give out on you. At best, you’ll be ineffective if you don’t take the time you need to rest on a regular basis.
Keep in mind when I say rest, I’m not talking about procrastinating, but I’m sure we’ve all been there.
I’m talking about creating space or margin to do nothing or do the things that you enjoy that refuel you!
As someone who is multihyphenated, I’ve been more intentional about rest and finding ways to do it even with my busy schedule.
Many of you probably know by now, but if you don’t let me give you a picture into my life. In addition to this newsletter, podcasting, speaking, and coaching I do with IncrediPaul; there’s a couple other important ventures for myself. I’m also the founder & president of NALA(STEM) which exists “to unite, support, and build community among all historically excluded peoples in STEM” and with DEI being attacked more than ever, it’s been stressful to say the least. On top of those things, I also work fulltime as an Research & Development Engineer.
It’s not an exhaustive list, but yeah a lot of things going on. I took some much needed scheduled time off for a few days last month and I talked about in this recent episode of the podcast along with why it’s important to rest as well. I may or may not have created an acrostic R.E.S.T. for the reasons why it’s important. Check it out by clicking the button or the YouTube link below!
I’m also being more intentional about having more solo episodes for the podcast going forward and trying to keep them shorter, to about 15 minutes or less. Let me know if there’s a specific aspect of leadership in STEM that you want me to dive into in future episodes!
