Leadership’s Silent Struggle
When it comes to leadership, there’s something we don’t often talk about.
Especially as men and it can be very costly if not addressed.
We as men don’t always talk about mental health, and that silence can be costly.
This week on the podcast, I opened up about my own journey with therapy, people pleasing, and learning the hard way that you can’t pour into others if you’re running on empty.
For many of us, especially men, mental health gets brushed aside until the cracks start showing. We tell ourselves that being selfless or “toughing it out” is the noble path.
But here’s the truth…
Ignoring your mental health doesn’t make you stronger. It makes you fragile!
I’ve seen how easy it is to put everyone else’s needs ahead of my own.
It looked like leadership. It felt like humility. But really, it was neglect.
The stress stacked up, the reflection time got skipped, and suddenly I wasn’t showing up as the best version of myself.
Leadership isn’t only about guiding others, it’s also about stewarding yourself. That means reflecting regularly (not just once a quarter), seeking out spaces where you can be challenged, and knowing when to step back.
Whether that’s therapy, talking with a trusted friend, or even using those sick or bereavement days at work, you owe it to yourself to pause and check in.
And let’s be clear: reflection isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. When you learn to balance service with self care, you don’t just preserve your health, you model resilience for everyone around you.
This week’s episode digs into how men can approach mental health with honesty and intention, why reflection should be a habit, and how leaders can avoid the trap of toxic positivity. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s necessary.

TL;DR
Men often struggle to prioritize mental health.
Leadership starts with self care and reflection.
Therapy, trusted relationships, and regular check ins are key tools.
