DEVELOPING OR NAH?
We hear the phrases professional development and leadership development all the time.
But what does that actually mean?
Is development a one time event?
Is it reading books?
Is it watching videos and calling it a day?
Or is there something deeper happening when real growth shows up?
Before we go any further, shoutout to you for opening this newsletter and reading this far. You are developing. Most people never make it to this point, so you are already doing more than you think.
Here is the truth: development is an intentional act to learn more and do more.
Learning is great, but consuming without applying is the same as not learning at all. Nothing changes until you put it into practice.
Think of it like the gym. You can watch every workout video on the internet, memorize every routine, and buy all the right equipment. But unless you actually pick up the weight, your muscles stay the same.
Leadership works the exact same way.
Developing does not always look perfect. Sometimes you try and fail privately. Other times you fail publicly. And honestly, that can sting a little.
But those moments grow you more than any easy win ever will.
You learn faster.
You build resilience.
You understand yourself at a deeper level.
As you work toward anything, make sure it matches your values. If it is not aligned, you will burn out fast.
Your energy goes where your values go.
Your peace follows alignment.
Your growth multiplies when your direction makes sense with who you are.
And speaking of alignment, this week’s podcast episode dives even deeper into the importance of staying true to your values as you grow in your career and leadership.
I sit down with Katie O'Malley, TedX speaker, executive coach, and founder of Encourage Coaching. If you want a real life example of development in action, you will want to hear this one.

TL;DR:
Development is not just learning, it is applying what you learn. Real growth happens when you take action, embrace the messy moments, and make sure your goals align with your values. If you want an example of what intentional development looks like, check out this week’s episode of IncrediPaul Leadership with Katie O'Malley.
