NEW BEGINNINGS IN LIFE & LEADERSHIP

Another week, another podcast episode not released…

I could get used to this..

Just kidding, show will be back Monday, September 8!

In the meantime, let’s talk about dealing with a new beginnings whether that’s in leadership or life. I’ll focus on a personal life story in this newsletter.

I shared about in more detail in my October 2024 newsletter, but last year was a trying year, but I got through it and came out stronger than ever. As I started 2025, I started telling myself that it would be my year to Thrive

Why?

One because it rhymed… but in all seriousness things were looking up and I had a new lease on life with some things I had learned about leadership and life overall especially in intimate relationships.

Reflecting on where I am today to where I was at this point last year, is nothing short of miraculous because I know people who’ve experienced similar stories from years ago and don’t have the same renewed love of life that I have. As a person of faith, Jesus was very much a major contributing factor to my redemption story but I’ll focus on other factors for this newsletter.

Three key things that helped with navigating this new beginning for me was being patient with myself, showing more gratitude, and learning to ask for help more readily.

The first one being patient with myself was what I honestly still struggle with at times, but the biggest thing is realizing that it’s a process. You don’t flip a switch and heal from heart break. It also meant not jumping into any new relationships just because it felt good. Obviously I’ve made plenty of friends but I needed to have very hard boundaries in order to protect myself and others especially in the months shortly after everything happened.

Second one was showing more gratitude. I’m a recovering perfectionist so it’s so much easier for me to focus on what I don’t do well and I’m always learning to celebrate “small wins”. I’ve been told that my small wins aren’t really small, so yeah still learning. I was consistent in keeping a gratitude journal which was a little bit different than a “success log” than I had historically done.

This helped me appreciate things that I would normally overlook and not focus as much on what I needed to do. While important, I was definitely treading water for several months and wasn’t until the beginning of the year that I started to push on really anything.

Third one was asking more readily for help. This showed up with allowing my friends to actually be there for me. I’ve historically been the friend that’s there for everyone else, but I can struggle with putting myself last and not thinking about what I need until it’s too late. I was able to have deeper relationships with my friends.

TL:DR?

I shared 3 things about how to navigate new beginnings.

  1. Be patient with yourself

  2. Show more gratitude

  3. Learn to ask for help
